RE/MAX Paramount Properties Marietta GA Community Guide

Incorporated in 1852, Marietta is the largest city in central Cobb County, Georgia. Winner of the “All American City” Award, Marietta has everything from art and theater to excellent shopping, unique restaurants and a rich history.
The city has six historic districts, some on the National Register of Historic Places. The city’s Welcome Center is located in the historic train depot just outside Marietta Square and is the perfect place for maps and brochures such as Marietta’s self-guided Walking and Driving Tours, highlighting the city’s arts, cultural and historical attractions.
Marietta Square is one of many central areas for the city. Festivals, concerts and more community events are held here and at Glover Park in the center of the square.
One such community favorite is the annual Taste of Marietta event featuring over 80 restaurants and caterers showcasing their best food. This is a free event with live music and kid-friendly activities including crafts and face painting. Samples or “Tastes” cost between $.50 and $5.00 bought directly from the vendor.Every Saturday morning (9am until noon) and Sunday afternoon (noon until 3pm) from April through November, the Marietta Square Farmers Market hosts an average of over 60 vendors offering fresh, locally grown seasonal and garden items as well as local honey, handmade soaps, breads and flowers.
One of Marietta’s more interesting and entertaining points of interest is the “Big Chicken” at the intersection of Cobb Parkway (US 41) and Roswell Rd (US 120). Built in 1956, this restaurant building was constructed with moving eyes and beak. Designed by a Georgia Tech architecture student, the novelty building started out as a method of advertising. At 56-foot-tall, the building is now a common landmark for drivers providing directions as well as a reference point for pilots approaching Dobbins Air Force Base.
Another Marietta staple is the Marietta Diner on Cobb Pkwy. Open 24hrs, locals name it in the Top 5 places to eat for the area rating it with 4.5 our of 5 stars for taste, presentation, and atmosphere. The Marietta Diner also received a 2 out of 3 forks rating in the Atlanta Journal Constitution from food critic Krista Reese.
While you’re on Cobb Parkway, bring the kids to Six Flags Whitewater, the Southeast’s largest waterpark. It was recently named one of the top ten waterparks in the country with one of the world’s tallest freefalls and more than forty slides. There is a huge play area for younger children and a “Lazy River” for a relaxing float around the park.
At the end of September each year, Marietta’s Jim R Miller Park is host to the North Georgia State Fair. For 10 days, the park is covered in carnival style rides, food, games, and attractions including free music concerts. Each year has a new theme so don’t miss out!
